dear reader,
The week of the summer solstice officially marks the dog days of summer - hot, long, and relaxing summer days. With that, we are very nearly halfway through the year. Per usual, I took this time to reevaluate my New Year’s goals, and set new ones for the latter half of 2024. I also like to re-vamp my Spotify playlists, get back into reading, and start a new show. This week was full of triple-degree weather, Sonic happy hour stops, rewatching my favorite shows while drinking tea and eating the freshest fruit, and Steve Fisher’s cover of Adrianne Lender’s “anything”.
lets start with what i’m reading this week
Station Eleven is a novel detailing the fall of humanity and society through a deadly virus. It was written by Emily St. John Mandel, and it portrays this post-apocalyptic world through the eyes of many different types of people whose stories are inevitably intertwined.
“First we only want to be seen, but once we’re seen, that’s not enough anymore. After that, we want to be remembered.”
― Emily St. John Mandel, Station Eleven
For me, this book is beautiful because it’s actually sort of believable. Well, not so much the part about a super virus that kills its hosts within hours, because that’s been proven to be almost impossible due to the history of viruses, but the book details the beauty of humanity, resilience, and connection. I hope to write a better explanation in my “what i’m currently reading” section when I finish it, so stay tuned!
bakes of the week
what I listened to
This week I have been fully immersing myself in the Americana summer vibes by listening to Lana del Rey, Nancy Sinatra, Mazzy Star, Lesley Gore, and Lucia Zambetti on repeat. Here’s the playlist I’ve been playing non-stop:
Honorable mention to my most-played song of the week: Halah by Mazzy Star.
what I watched
“erewhon, ozempic, and chefluencers” by Mina Le
"stop hiding and start doing things” by Sophie Rosam
“let them - just let them” by looking at life with Dee
Ugly Betty on Netflix (a comfort show)
and finally, my favorite creators on Youtube: the Koury Sisters!
p.s.
Have a happy and safe summer!
